The first image of Jessica in Woman Walks Ahead surfaced today, courtesy of THR. Directed by Susanna White, the Native American drama stars Chastain as Caroline Weldon, an artist who moves from Brooklyn to the Standing Rock Reservation in the Dakotas to advise Sioux chieftain Sitting Bull (Michael Greyeyes) as he fights to keep the land for his people. She wrote letters to the federal government on behalf of Sitting Bull and eventually lived on the land with her teenage son for several years, even though she was vilified by the press, which called her “Sitting Bull’s white squaw.”

In 1889, widow Catherine Weldon (Academy Award® nominee Jessica Chastain) leaves behind her unsatisfying life in New York City to pursue her dream to be a painter, and bravely travels alone to the Dakota Territory, with the goal of painting the infamous Sioux chief Sitting Bull. Despite his fearsome reputation, Catherine is surprised to discover that Sitting Bull is a more complex and intriguing man than she expected to find, and their relationship grows and deepens. But as the U.S. government plots to force the Plains Indians to abandon their land and move onto reservations, Catherine, Sitting Bull and the Plains Indians will be swept up in the dramatic and violent history that will end with the devastating battle at Wounded Knee. From Academy Award® nominated writer Steven Knight, comes a beautiful story about love and legacy, set amidst the epic backdrop of the Native American struggle against the US government’s takeover of their land.

Woman Walks Ahead will likely premiere in 2017. Check the image below:

Earlier today, Jessica Chastain received a special honor at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA, immortalizing her hand and footprints in concrete beside greats like Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe. The occasion also allowed the performer to look back at her long road to stardom.

Before dipping her fingers in concrete, the 39-year-old actress said a few words about the momentous honor, even getting emotional when remembering those that helped her get there.

My grandmother took me to my very first play… and she sat next to me when I discovered my profession. My mother drove me two hours each way to audition for Romeo & Juliet. My dad loaned me money to fly to New York to visit Juilliard for the first time. My amazing, incredible family has always been there to lift me up and they’ve made great sacrifices because they believed in me, and their support in my dreams shaped the rest of my life.

Jessica is gracing the cover of November “C Magazine” issue, as part of Miss Sloane promotion. On the interview, she discusses about how she mantain her privacy. Check some excerpts:

On maintaining her privacy: “In this industry you can set your own privacy. If I go to certain restaurants with my boyfriend I know we’re going to get photographed. But when the public is involved in your relationship…they can demand or ask questions because they feel like they have an ownership of it, because you sold it. That means they have a say in your private life.”

On what she looks for in a role: “My experience with making movies is that I want to walk away from each role, and each set, having learned something and grown as a person. That’s really important for me when choosing a role: What am I going to learn and what am I going to gain from this experience?”

On her role in Miss Sloane: “She’s got shades of gray in there, which is what I love. She’s very flawed.”
