Jessica Chastain, who stars in about 500 movies this year (The Tree of Life, The Help, upcoming flicks The Debt and Take Shelter) has signed on to the Guillermo del Toro produced feature Mama. The story centers on two girls who believe they are haunted by their mother’s ghost.
“It’s unlike anything I’ve ever done,” says Chastain. “It’s a genre film, so that’s why I’m interested in it. It’s an opportunity for me to see if I can do it. It’s a horror film, it’s similar to The Ring and The Orphanage. I’m really excited about it. It’s a first time director (Andres Muschietti) and he made a wonderful short that this film has been expanded from called Mama.“
In a recent interview with Hollywood Outbreak, Chastain discusses her love of such horror films as The Others and The Orphanage (which Del Toro produced) (listen to it here.)
The Debt, co-starring Sam Worthington and Helen Mirren, opens August 31st.
