Show summary: Animals is an animated comedy series about the downtrodden creatures that thrive within New York City’s uniquely unpleasant ecosystem. Whether Pigeons, Rats, Roaches or Horses, each episode chronicles the day-to-day lives of a species and proves how their thoughts & problems aren’t too far from our own.

Turkeys (1×10) Having lost his wife, a turkey vows an vendetta on the mayor who picks him to be pardoned during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade at the same time that Phil Jr. and Mike come to the surface despite warnings of the “giant demons”. The turkey gets his chance of revenge when the mayor’s illegal activities are revealed, shooting him dead before later dying from his own injuries. The season ends with Phil Jr. and Mike abducted as test subjects at a laboratory.

Production Notes

The first two episodes were independently produced and presented at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2015. In May 2015, HBO picked the series up with a two-season order, which premiered February 5, 2016.

Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano worked together at an ad agency in New York when Matarese decided to pursue animation. One day, they saw two pigeons outside the window and started voicing them, and then decided to put some animation to it. They thought New York made a great backdrop, as they focused in on little areas and had various animals and creatures talking like humans.

They approached agents and managers of all guests stars, in order to get them voicing over for the show. Mark Duplass, also called on a lot of his friends.
