Screen Daily has talked with International Universal Pictures’ president David Kosse, which opened Universal wants a sequel for ‘Mama’, due the current success of the movie in the box office. Mama is approaching $70 million at home with more to come from overseas.
But the director Andrés Muschietti gtgfisn’t interested. He told to ScreenCrush:
We sort of wore out the subject matter…I never thought this could continue. Sequels are always tricky. I know how studios think but I don’t see ‘Mama’ as something you can exploit because you’re screwing with the original. I’m really hoping to jump into some other movies right now.”
Of course it doesn’t mean there would be no more sequels. I think Universal can think about doing it without Muschietti, Del Toro or even Chastain on board.
