Variety is reporting that Jessica is confirmed for the Liv Ullmann direxted Stringberg adaptation with Colin Farrell co-starring.

Liv Ullmann is returning to the director’s chair with Jessica Chastain as her leading lady.
Ullmann will helm an adaptation of August Strindberg’s battle-of-the-sexes play “Miss Julie” that will star Chastain and Colin Farrell.

Samantha Morton is on board to co-star in the adaptation.

The original story, set in 1874 at a count’s estate in Sweden, follows a woman trying to escape an existence crampedby social mores who is suddenly drawn to a senior servant.

Oliver Dungey and Teun Hilte are producing.

The role would mark the first project for the CAA- and Mosaic repped-Chastain since her Oscar nom and Golden Globe for Sony’s “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Besides “Zero Dark Thirty,” Chastain can also be seen in Universal’s “Mama,” which has made $50 million at the domestic B.O. She is currently starring in Broadway play “The Heiress.”

The CAA-repped Farrell has a busy 2013 ahead of him with roles in FilmDistrict’s “Dead Man Down,” Warner Bros.’ “A Winter’s Tale” and Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks.”

As for Ullmann, the last film the multihyphenate helmed was 2000′s Swedish pic “Faithless.” More recently, she directed Cate Blanchett and Joel Edgerton onstage in “A Streetcar Named Desire” in 2009. The Principato-Young repped Morton was last seen in David Cronenberg’s “Cosmopolis.”
