Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas Howard, Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain sit down for a round-table discussion on the film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s bestseller.

Did all this estrogen on set create anything other than goodwill for you?
Chastain: I’m a bit new to the business but what scares me is I’ve done 11 films so far, and in all of them, I was the girl on the set. And with this movie, right before I went to film it, and even after I shot it, all the meetings I would go to, in the industry, they would always say, “ooh, how was that set, working with all those women?” They were expecting it to be a negative experience. But to be honest, it was the nicest set I’ve ever been on.

Bryce, how did you embody that villain, Hilly?
Chastain: Her ability to just switch it on like that [snaps her fingers] is like Nurse Ratched. We’d do the scene, cut so they could relight and I’d look over at Bryce and she’d be on the phone [working on another project] saying, “read that back to me.” I’m struggling to be in character and Bryce is producing a movie on the side. She was able to switch it on and off like that.

The Toronto International Film Festival is set to return for its 36th run with an impressive line-up of movies. Two of upcoming Jessica films are set to special presentation:

Coriolanus (Ralph Fiennes)
Coriolanus (Ralph Fiennes), a hero of Rome, is a great soldier but despises the people. His extreme views ignite a mass riot and he is banished from Rome. Coriolanus allies with a sworn enemy (Gerard Butler) to take his revenge on the city.

Take Shelter (Jeff Nichols)
Curtis lives in Ohio with his wife Samantha and daughter Hannah. When he begins having dreams about an encroaching apocalyptic storm, he channels his anxiety into building a shelter in their backyard. Though his obsessive behaviour provokes intolerance in his community, Curtis confides in Samantha, testing their bond against the highest possible stakes. Stars Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain.

Twitch reports that Chastain has signed on to “Mama,” a feature-length remake of a 2008 short film by Spanish filmmaker Andres Muschietti that Universal International are putting together. The short, which involves two young girls pursued by a woman who wants to use them to bring back her own dead children, got great acclaim at festivals in the last few years, and a remake has apparently been in the works for a while: it will come as no great surprise, considering his track record in the genre, that Guillermo Del Toro is producing the project, one of the seemingly thousands of films he’s lending his name to.

“Take Shelter” final poster has been released, and it’s beautiful.

Starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, the film follows is a man whose life slowly becomes consumed by his belief that a deadly, apocalyptic storm is on the way. A psychological slow-burn that doubles as a parable about the difficult times that face working class Americans today (seriously), Jeff Nichols film is breathless and invigorating, intellectually deep and emotionally resonant in a way that few thrillers or dramas of this sort ever are. It marks another great outing between Nichols and Shannon who paired up for the absolutely great “Shotgun Stories” which as always, we urge you to Netflix ASAP. As for the new poster for “Take Shelter,” don’t fear, this is not a redux of “The Birds.” The winged creatures are part of the visions that Shannon’s character in the film witnesses as he struggles to grasp what’s real and what’s fantasy.

“Take Shelter” will begin rolling into cinemas starting on September 30th and you should put it pretty high on your list of all movies. (The Playlist)

Jeff Nichols’ intense psychological drama Take Shelter is set for a limited release on September 30th (via The Playlist) before going wide on October 7th. Starring Michael Shannon, the film generated a good amount of buzz at Sundance.

Jessica Chastain attended the ‘BAFTA Brits to Watch’ event on Saturday. The event was done to promote forty-two emerging British individuals selected by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The event took place at the Belasco Theater, and I added 05 MQ pictures to the gallery:

Working with Terrence Malick must be an extraordinary and unique experience?
For me it was a lot about giving up any idea of what the plan might be on the first scene, or on a day that we were going to film, it was all about capturing an accident. There was a scene where we were shooting a grief section and I remember I was watching Brad, he was so good, then there’s this Woodpecker going and Terry was like, “there’s a Woodpecker somewhere!” And he’d point the camera towards that. But there’s always ways to incorperate it, even in the trailer when you hear the voiceover go “there are two ways through life, the way of nature, and the way of grace,” you hear a bird in the background, that’s actually from the set, when I was doing the voiceover.
