Here’s how ready Jessica Chastain is for stardom: Even though a recent motocross accident had her hobbling through a round of interviews in Toronto this week on crutches and with a knee brace, she still did it in black patent Louboutin platform stilettos that were six inches tall. Maybe seven. It was a great physical metaphor for how confident she is about risking her neck for her art.

But who is Jessica Chastain? Good question, if only for the next week or so. Because soon, she’s going to be inescapable. A northern California native, she was the first person in her family to attend college – the Juilliard School – which she did on a scholarship provided by fellow northern Californian Robin Williams (though they have yet to meet). After graduation, she worked steadily in theatre and TV, and now, at 30, is generating the kind of “Where did she come from?” excitement of a young Cate Blanchett.

You’ll be seeing a lot of Jessica Chastain this year.

The Juilliard grad moved from theatre and TV into movies just a few years ago, and as sometimes happens with film releases, she has a handful of projects coming out all at once. She was in Toronto Tuesday to promote Terrence Malick’s wonderful new movie, The Tree of Life, but she’s also part of an all-star cast in late summer release The Help, stars in the psychological thriller The Fields in July and will turn up in productions of Wilde Salome and Coriolanus later this year. And she stars opposite Michael Shannon in the anxiety-drenched Take Shelter in the fall.

So it’s going to be a Jessica Chastain kind of year.

The fragile beauty is entirely charming in person. Chastain compares The Tree of Life to a prism, saying of the film, “Every time you see it, you see a new part of it you didn’t see before. I feel this film changes the language of cinema, somehow.”

Last June 04th Jessica attended a Chanel hosted benefit dinner for the Natural Resources Defense Council’s Ocean Initiative in Malibu. The dinner was held at the home of Ron Meyer. I added 15 gorgeous pictures to the gallery:
